Basic rates
These rates should cover most musical applications; non-musical recordings, such as lectures and audio books, will have lower rates.
- Microphone placement and equipment setup: Depending on venue and number of microphones to be used, between $10.00 and $25.00.
- On-site recording:
- Stereo: $30.00 per hour. This is usually sufficient for recording a choir or a small band or orchestra.
- Multitrack: $40.00 per hour. For larger orchestras and performances that require up to eight microphones to be recorded to separate tracks, this is the best option.
- Time is metered from the time we start recording to the time we stop; setup and tear-down is included in the equipment setup cost, above. There is a two-hour minimum charge.
- Mixdown: Mixdown is the process of setting the levels and panning for each track of a multitrack recording and mixing it to two tracks (stereo), for CD production. Certain types of recordings will require little mixdown effort (choirs and orchestras recorded live, for instance) and we will not charge extra for it. However, mixing rock bands and songs recorded track-by-track can sometimes take several hours per song to get a satisfactory sound. So, this rate will vary depending on your project.
- Materials/media: $7.00 per 120-minute DAT tape (stereo) or 40-minute ADAT tape (8-track) used. Cost is higher for 60-minute ADAT tapes, and we prefer not to use them if it is avoidable. You will get to keep the master tapes. (This fee can be waived if you choose not to keep the tapes.)
- CDs: Pricing for CDs is based on how many you order:
- 1-24: $8.00 each
- 25-49: $7.50 each
- 50-99: $6.50 each
- 100-200: $6.00 each
